Van Gogh called this region home for much of his life. When you visit Provence, you will meander through the wind-swept fields and feel as though you are walking through one of his paintings. This is one of France’s most important agricultural regions supporting the country’s rich food scene — the many quintessential restaurants, farmers markets, and wine makers are right here, in Maussane. Being Local:

Visit Provence, act like a local.

Food & Flavours:

Our Farmhouse in the South of France is surrounded by villages bursting with local food and flavour.
We’ve listed some of our favourites below.

The Village

Ideally situated between Saint Remy De Provence, Les Baux De Provence, and Arles, Maussane Les Alpilles is a charming destination known for its local ingredients and great restaurants.

The farmhouse is in the heart of the village, a 5-minute stroll to a multitude of friendly bistros and charming restaurants, some even boasting Michelin stars.

You can either cook in our chef’s kitchen, or have dinner in town without having to worry about driving late at night. Staying in our farmhouse you’ll have the chance to experience the leisurely pace of real Maussane living—all within walking distance.

Jardins Des Alpilles- Market

An extremely refined market with a very broad array of local produce, all grown and picked within close proximity. There is also an exceptional variety of cheese, wine, olives, and olive oil from Maussane or Mouries, another neighbouring town.

Ronde des Pains- Boulangerie and Patisserie-

Bakery and Pastries

The Provence region is renowned for its rich selection of breads, baguettes, and croissants. Take a morning walk to one of the three town bakeries and get them oven-fresh daily. With so many tempting French desserts and gateaux, we cant help but suggest Ronde des Pains to indulge your sweet tooth. This favourite bakery is just on the right side of the street as you walk into the main square, set back slightly.

Saint-Louis Pèche- Fish Market

This is a wonderful spot to get a fresh array of seafood and Mediterranean fish, as well as specialty products to help prepare a seafood meal at home.

Boucherie de Maussane- Butcher

Just after the square, on the right, you’ll find the local butcher and charcuterie provider with an appetising assortment of daily-prepared foods, perfect for a savoury dinner at home.

Passing Time:

Here are our top suggestions on how to pass time when you visit Provence.

Moulin Jean-Marie Cornille- Olive Press

Take a stroll in Maussane to see the olive oil mill where they cold-press France’s most important extra virgin olive oil, sold in gourmet shops around the world. They will also ship olive oil to any destination you so desire.

Les Baux de Provence- Village

Within 5 minutes drive is a beautiful hillside town with a chateau. You will discover a functioning village with shops, restaurants, and spectacular views. At the bottom of the town sits a very famous Michelin Starred restaurant and hotel; Ousteau de Beaumaniere – with absolutely spectacular cuisine. Also, a must see is the world renowned “Carrières de Lumières” – Quarry of Lights. A light show projecting famous artwork onto the walls and floors of a very large indoor quarry. The show runs daily from March to December..

Chateau d’Estoublon Vineyard

Within a five minute drive you’ll find Chateaux Estoublon which sells its very famous olive oils and wines. This Chateau also has a Bistrot de Mogador with inside and outside seating, an amazing food shop with great Provençale delicacies, and a design boutique of modern Provençale objets d’art, furniture and fashions.

L’asile St. Paul- The Van Gogh Asylum

Within 8 minutes is the famous asylum where Van Gogh painted his most prized masterpieces. There you will see the field of Lilly’s and Lavender made famous within his paintings. A truly artful visit surrounded by the stunning nature of Provence.
